Purvottar Janajati Shiksha Samiti is an affiliated organization under Vidya Bharati has completed long glorious twenty five years of journey since its inception in 1997 at Tezpur . The samiti was formed to spread educational pursuit amongst the students especially in tribal communities of North eastern region. To start with the silver jubilee celebration from 10th March, 2022 , several activities were initiated, like a huge mothers’ sanmilan, Krishna Chandra Gandhi award celebration, Celebration of glorious days of tribal people, Azadi ka amrit mahotsav, awareness programme on language and culture of tribal people, extension of Ekal vidyalaya and teachers’ training etc. Now, the Samiti is going to celebrate its closing ceremony in a befitting manner on 12th and 13th February, 2023 which was announced through a press conference for the civil society. On this occasion, a seminar was organized on the topic “Teaching Indian Language at school level” in collaboration with a newly established university, called ‘Pragjyotishpur Unviersity’ on 12th February at 10 a.m. Three Vice Chancellors from Tripura, NEHU and Cotton University who will chair as a chairman of the seminar and a good number of educationists from Universities and colleges will participate as resource persons in the said seminar. This is followed by another programme at Dispur PWD convention centre where His Excellency Governor of Assam Professor, Jagadish Mukhi will grace the occasion as a chief guest and respected religious guru, Ananda Murti Guruma will be present as a guest of honour. In this programme, 15 eminent personalities will be felicitated who immensely contributed towards the education, social and cultural aspect among the tribal communities. On 13th February, Ananda Murtty maa shall share her amrit bachan before the audience which will be followed by a colourful cultural programme of various tribal communities who will perform at Sankardeva kalakhetra auditorium, Guwahati.
It is well known that Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Sansthan has initiated a unique system of imparting quality education in order to develop the total personality of children. Purvottar janajati shiksha samiti was established in 1997 to promote school education in remote areas of tribal communities of N.E. region of India which is a sister organization of Vidya Bharati. To initiate the programme in education sector Ekal vidyalaya (Single Teacher School) was started especially janajati areas which is a free education system up to class IV through a Janajati youth offering a nominal honorarium. Friends of Tribal Society (Ekal), a voluntary organization has been extending their financial assistance to this project. There are about 621 numbers of schools at present perspective in tribal areas of North East along with Kokrajhar and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam with an active participation and co-operation from the local people.
Besides this, Purvottar Janajati Shiksha Samiti also extended its pursuit to spread education amongst tribal communities by establishing formal schools also giving full support of financial assistance and infrastructure development all along for better development of tribal society. During the tenure of president ship of Dr. Upen rabha Hakacham and secretary, Sanchiram Payeng, Arunachal Shiksha Vikash committee was awarded a special grant from Government of India to run 9 Kasturba Gandhi girls’ school in the year 2006 and it was a very successful programme towards the girls’ education in A.P. A three days grand celebration of children programme was organized in the end of the same year in Diphu where more than 4000 students participated along with their parents. A landmark decision was initiated by Purvottor Janajati Samiti to felicitate a personality who contributed towards the development of education and social aspect of tribal communities in every year in the name of pioneer as well as torch bearer of the society late Krishna Chandra Gandhi since 2007. It is worth mentioning that the Krishna Chandra Gandhi award were jointly given two prominent personalities, Sri Ashok Warnekar and his wife Srimati Alaka Warnekar for their immense contribution towards the development of tribal communities in Lakshimpur area for the year 2022. The award ceremony was held at Tezpur. The Purvottar Janajati Samiti is looking forward to extend its different activities in North East region in due course of time especially in educational sector.
